Striated / Hairy Frogfish

The Striated/Hairy Frogfish (Antennarius striatus) is named due to its appearance, which looks to be hairy but of course is not. In fact, some individuals have a smooth texture. The fish is medium size for a frogfish, growing up to 22cm. in length. Like all species of frogfish, colours and patterns can vary between individuals and each individual fish can change its appearance deoending on its environment. It's found in tropical and sub-tropical seas almomst around the globe, specifially in The Indian Ocean and Western Pacific. Like all frogfish, it's an ambush predator that uses camouflage to hide and toxins to deter predation.
