M/V Blue Dolphin was relaunched in 2022, by one of the most-experienced and well-organised teams in the Similan Islands. The new design is by divers, for divers, and has a wide range of cabin options, plenty of space in communal areas, and a dedicated camera station. At 27 metres long, it's the perfect size for up to 16 lucky guests without using too much fuel. Effectively a brand-new boat, Blue Dolphin had a full renovation and refit from its previous incarnation, which was already a new boat just a few years ago. The team completely redesigned every deck, thinking of what diving guests want and need to ensure the most-comfortable and convenient experience.
There are three different cabin types, offering five accommodation options. On the main deck are the shared cabins, and deluxe cabins. The shared cabins are available with four single beds, two single beds or a double bed. The four-bed shared cabin offers the best value, for groups of friends or solo divers who want the best balance of price and great diving. There are windows, air conditioning, and each bed has a shelf, mini-safe and reading light. The twin/double cabins can have two single beds or one double, depending if you're coming as a couple, two friends, or alone. Solo divers are normally only placed with another guest of the same gender. All shared cabins on the lower deck use the four clean and well-designed communal bathrooms on the same deck. Also on the main deck are two Deluxe Cabins that have a private bathroom, and the option of two single beds or one double. On the boat's upper deck are two Master Cabins, with larger windows and more floor space. Couples can enjoy a huge King-size bed, and solo guests can choose a slightly smaller bed, increasing floor space even more.
Also on the upper deck is an air-conditioned lounge saloon, which is perfect for watching movies, dive briefings, or just getting out of the sun to relax or read a book. At the rear of this upper deck is an outdoor communal area, where guests enjoy the delicious food that is served throughout the cruise. Although the large tables and seating are fixed in place, it's very easy to socialise with other guests, or find some privacy in a corner. And of course upstairs is a large sundeck with both shaded and exposed areas.
Blue Dolphin is a wonderful place to spend time, but you join these trips to go diving. At the rear of the main deck is a large dive platform, that has been carefully designed to ensure convenience, safety and ease of use. Each diver gets their own slot for personal items, and a location for dive gear. Plus there's a camera station to prepare and store photography equipment. The divers are organised into small groups to match experience, air consumption, certificaton and needs. There is of course a motorised dinghy to drop divers off directly above most dive sites, and to collect them at the surface at the end of each dive.
Food is plentiful and delicious, and the boat has all the latest safety and navigation features. The crew speak English, and guides speak a variety of languages, and can teach diving courses for those who book in advance. Nitrox is available, and there are annual Early-Bird discounts for those who want the best deal on one of the best Similan diving liveaboards.
